Watch out for big waves and strong gusts in North Devon on Saturday as weather warning is imposed by Met Office.

The latest spell of sunshine is coming to an end with forecasters warning of ‘severe’ weather this weekend.

A yellow warning is in place across North Devon for wind on Saturday, from 2am - 9pm.

Gusts of up to 40-50mph inland and 50-60mph are expected on exposed coastlines, and these are set to coincide with high spring tides.

“This is expected to lead to some localised instances of spray and wave over-topping of flood defences around the coasts of southwest England and Wales,” said a chief forecaster.

“A vigorous area of low pressure is expected to track eastwards cross the northern half of the UK on Saturday.

“Strengthening winds on its southern flank will reach southwestern areas of the UK early on Saturday.

“The peak in wind strength will be across South West England and south Wales during the morning, then extending eastwards through the course of the day.

“Inland areas will have the strongest winds during Saturday afternoon, when localised gusts of 50 mph are possible, particularly in association with showers.”
