A cat used up at least one of its nine lives after hitching a five-mile ride in a furniture delivery van.Princess, a five-year-old tabby, snuck into a Barrow Clark Furnishers van making deliveries in Buckland Brewer and only emerged when drivers Rich and Freddie Barrow made their next delivery in Torrington. The startled feline caused chaos when she shot out into New Street, bringing traffic to a halt. Freddie said had the shock of his life as he unrolled van shutter doors: Cars slowed down and after some commotion we managed to coax the cat over, pick her up put her in the front cab, he said. It was only when they read Princess collar that they realised she belonged to the neighbour of their previous delivery in Buckland Brewer. After a few phone calls, she was soon safely reunited with owner Kat Harvey of Tuckers Park. Kat said: I am so grateful that they returned her safely. It is nice to know that people do care for animals, especially when so many go missing. I am very grateful to both Rich and Freddie. Rich joked: Most people have a dog in their van, but for that morning we had a cat. We are just pleased that Princess is home safe.
