SIR - MEP Giles Chichester's letter complained that the EU's new army would lead to a federal superstate. Well, I have news for Giles, it has already arrived, complete with a President, pretend Parliament, currency, national flag and anthem, Courts, paramilitary Police force and is creating 80 per cent of our new laws. All achieved with the help of Treaties signed by three Conservative Prime Ministers, who did not bother to ask us.Interestingly, Giles belongs to the EPP federalist group in the EU, as a result of which, his membership has helped to finance and promote the creation of the superstate he professes to dislike. You have to wonder if this sudden realisation is in any way connected to the EU elections in June? The important question is, what have Giles and his fellow Conservative MEP's done for North Devon to deserve re-election? Their track record shows that they have consistently supported EU Directives (like the privatisation of the Royal Post Office and unlimited EU immigration), and done little to resist the superstate. It seems to me, that Giles will be asking the North Devon electorate to vote for a Party whose MEPs have ignored the interests of the electorate.
