BETWEEN 500 and 600 walkers took part in Ilfracombe Rotary Club's annual Startrek charity walk on Saturday night. With 101 teams, it was the first time for many years that the team entry topped a century.

They used maps and compasses to follow an 18-mile figure of eight course over mainly farmland, starting at finishing at Arlington Court.

Indications on the night were that the event has raised at least 39,400, with the expectation that this will rise to more than 45,000, beating last year's record of 44,000.
