The Ship and Pilot pub pays homage to England sporting success in football club fundraiser

The patron saint of England was guest of honour on Thursday as an Ilfracombe pub celebrated St George’s Day with great sporting moments.

The Ship and Pilot at the harbour replayed the triumphs of the 1966 football world cup as well as the 2003 rugby world cup final.

The pub was awash with bunting and landlord Nick Ward cooked traditional English bangers ‘n’ mash for the occasion.

Ilfracombe Male Voice Choir also joined the revellers for a patriotic song or two.

The event was held to raise money for Ilfracombe Youth Football and the club’s minibus appeal. Under 12s manager Kevin Payne said the club would like to thank all at the Ship and Pilot for the fundraiser and everyone who supported it.
