Bideford boxing club picked up two more titles as Rocky Grigg and Dylan Burston became NAGBC Western Counties Champions.

Rocky Grigg boxed against Freddie Norman from Mackenzies Boxing Club. Norman had a fierce reputation, two times national champion and England representative with over twice as many bouts as Grigg.

The Bideford youngster didn’t let this faze him, taking it to Norman with a relentless pace. In the second, Grigg was slowing Norman down with big body shots and flurries of inside work.

Norman struggled to keep Grigg off and had points took for holding in the second and third round. Grigg kept chipping away to head and body demonstrating fast hands and gaining the points win.

Dylan Burston boxed against Navy representative Tom Ward. Burston dictated the first round with a stiff jab controlling range. In the second, Burston added the big shots in and forced a standing count from an accurate right cross. Burston carried his form into the last, showing great punch variation to secure the points win.

Zakk Bowden made his debut in Bodmin against Max Carson from the host club. Both boxers went toe to toe from the opening bell with big shots landing. After a tight first, Bowden found another gear in the second, a straight left forcing a standing count. Bowden stepped straight back in with a barrage of punches, hitting the target and forcing a technical knockout.

Marley Barnes also boxed in Bodmin against Rory Elding from the host club. After a cagey first round where both boxers had success, it was Elding who took over in the second, keeping Barnes at range.

Barnes changed tactics in the third, closing the gap scoring with hooks and uppercuts as Elding was trapped on the ropes at the final bell. The judges struggled to split the boxers after a closely fought contest with Elding taking the points decision.

Stan Moran won his debut in Gloucester against Max Walker from the Fight Factory. Moran showed fast hands and footwork, picking off his aggressive opponent. As the fight developed, Walker got desperate, walking into counter punches and receiving two standing counts before Moran got the points decision.
