That compares to a Government target of 65 per cent. With regard to major applications, nearly two-thirds (63 per cent) were determined within the 13-week target - once again beating the Government guide of 60 per cent. Meanwhile, on all other applications, such as other commercial proposals, the council reached a decision on nine out of ten (89 per cent) of those within eight weeks, compared to the national target of 80 per cent.Councillor Colin Wright, who has been leading on this project, said: "We are committed to giving people the best possible planning service we can. "One aspect is to consider planning applications thoroughly and to make well-informed decisions as quickly as practical - and with nearly 1,500 applications last year, that's a tall order. Still, these figures show that we are doing this, and we now hope to build on them even more in the future."For help with any planning issue, customers can phone 01271 388288, email firstname.lastname@example.org or pop in to the Customer Service Centre at:* Civic Centre, Barnstaple* The Ilfracombe Centre* The Amory Centre in South Molton.
