SOUTH Molton's Mayor has given the town's hospital a lift - by helping the League of Friends to raise the money for a new hoist!Cllr Stephen Lock heard that South Molton Community Hospital was in need of new specialist equipment to help move and weigh patients. His annual charity evening in the town's Assembly Rooms raised 750, while good sports at South Molton Bowling Club raised 1,200 for the cause. A further 200 was donated by the family of Leslie Keal, in gratitude for the quality of care he had received at the hospital during the months prior to his death.Cllr Lock said: "We are delighted to make this gift to the League of Friends, who work so hard to support our wonderful local hospital here in South Molton."Mary Moore, chairman of the League of Friends, said: "I'm continually overwhelmed by how our local community here in South Molton never fails to support us with funds for the hospital."Although we had to raise 7,000, as soon as the nursing staff told us what they needed, we had the confidence to go out and buy the hoist in advance of receiving the money."The state-of-the-art Viking Lyko patient hoist, Octopus and Octolifting sheets, and additional patient repositioning sheets are already in service at the hospital.
