SOME of the best climbers of the South West and UK will be descending - and ascending - upon South Molton this weekend. The Mill Adventure Centre at Hacche Mill is once again hosting annual climbing festival, Hard Rock Fest, three days of adrenaline-pumping vertical fun open to all.Starting at 6pm on Friday, the local climbing Mecca - home to a new boulder cave and Devon's largest dedicated indoor climbing wall - will be running a number of climbing and bouldering competitions for all abilities. This year's double-header event will also host the South West Film Festival, showcasing some of the best mountain and white water adventure film making talent from around the globe. Films will be shown in a huge recently converted cinema room to the rear of the Mill. And if that all sounds like thirsty work, head for the barbecue or visit the Hard Rock Beer Festival marquee to refresh with a glass or two of locally brewed ale.Parties on Friday and Saturday night will feature a number of live local bands and give festival-goers the chance to meet fellow climbers, industry trades people and film makers.Managing Director of Rock & Rapid, Keith Crockford, said this year's festival, set up to raise money for mountain rescue teams throughout the UK, would be better than ever. "We hope it will be a great gathering of climbers, music, beer and food," he told the Gazette."Come and stay for the weekend in the Mill's new Bunkhouse, bring your own tent, or rent a teepee for you and your friends."Day tickets are available for the event, but a special £15 weekend ticket includes camping on Friday and Saturday nights, and entry to both festival parties. For tickets and more information, telephone (01769) 572070 or 579600 or visit
