The South Molton Town Council event always enjoys great support, but town clerk Andrew Coates said this year there were more people than ever before, with an estimated 5,000 in attendance at a brilliant event. He said: It was absolutely jam packed, one of the best nights we have had for a long time. Crowds gathered to enjoy live music, entertainment and fireworks as well as the switch on carried out by BBC Radio Devon presenter Gordon Sparks, joined by town mayor Christine Lock. Childrens Hospice South West was named as the chosen charity for the event this year and was fundraising on the night, while representatives from the hospice spoke movingly on stage about the work it does. Highlights included music from Nathan James plus an inflatable theme park, a big hit with younger visitors.
