The annual festivities on Saturday organised by South Molton Rotary Club made the most of its Past and Present theme by bringing together 26 former carnival queens on a special float. The oldest former queen was Betty Ball at 90 years of age and the longest reigning was Marilyn Deacon aged 88, who was queen in 1949. Peter Hardwick of the carnival committee hailed the event as one of the best yet and thanked all the people, businesses and organisations that helped to make it such a success. There were 40 individual entries, 21 floats,11 walking and eight in other classes. Peter added: The standard of entry was extremely high and showed much imagination, flair and hard work. What was pleasing was the participation of people across the ages from pre-school to senior citizens. Community involvement is alive and well in South Molton. Any monies raised after expenses are paid will be channelled to local charities and organisations through South Molton Rotary Club.
