Solicitor is new district councillor for Holsworthy

INDDEPENDENT Pamela Johns has been elected as the new Torridge District Councillor for Holsworthy. She replaces veteran councillor Des Shadrick, who died in April.

Pam is a well-known Holsworthy girl born and bred. She works as a solicitor in the town, is married and has two children.

She said: "It is my intention to represent all the people in the area regardless of their politics. I will listen, learn and work hard to ensure the voice of the whole of Holsworthy is heard at Torridge District Council."

Pam is already Secretary of the Holsworthy Chamber of Trade, sits on the Town Council, is chairman of the Community Property Trust and a Trustee of the Mid Devon & Bude Citizens Advice Bureau.

In the by-election she polled 537 votes to beat Liberal Democrat Victoria Shearman (471 votes). The turnout was 31.8 per cent.
