STUDENTS at Braunton School and Community College will have more energy next year - when \u00A320,000 solar panels are installed on the roof. The panels will generate renewable electricity and will not cost the school anything as they are funded by supermarket chain The Co-operative and Government grants. It is part of the Co-operative Group's Green Energy for Schools scheme and the panels will be installed on the roof of the geography building by the spring. A monitor display inside will show how much energy the panels are producing, what it will do and the carbon dioxide saved. "We are really pleased to get this and argued since such things usually go to urban areas, why shouldn't North Devon - which sees a lot of sunshine - get it?" said assistant headteacher David Butt. "It's a great way for the school to save energy and also part of our work teaching students about these crucial issues.
