Eight-acre project near South Molton gets the go-ahead
Proposals for a large-scale solar farm near South Molton have been approved by council planners.
The eight-acre photovoltaic panel array project can now be built in a field at Tidderson Moor, south of Rackenford and the A361 North Devon Link Road.
The installation of around 5,400 ground-mounted panels is expected to take around three months to complete.
Solar photovoltaic panels absorb sunlight and produce DC electricity which is converted into AC electricity and distributed to electrical appliances.
A design statement to planners on behalf of applicant and landowner Mark Dean of George Nympton, said the scheme would produce enough green energy to supply the community of Rackenford.
The site would be restored to its original state following the anticipated 25-year life span of the array.
