Save Our Hospital Services (SOHS) will join the country in celebrating the 70th birthday of the NHS from Saturday, June 30 to July 7.

To celebrate the 70th birthday of the NHS, SOHS will be hosting a variety of events throughout the week.

Starting this Saturday (June 30), a coach trip will take North Devon residents to join the healthcare rally in London.

The following Thursday, July 5, will see the actual birthday of the NHS and SOHS will be presenting a cake to A and E and MAU departments as part of their Thank You Staff initiative.

The week's events will conclude with a rally on the Square on Saturday, July 7. The celebrations will begin with a Procession through the High Street at 11am. Those wishing to join the march should assemble on Castle Green at 10.30am.

The event will be accompanied by music from Amy Newton, Jim Jones and Soulcraft, set to perform together with speakers giving their views on the success and failures of the service over 70 years.

The NHS was established on July 5, 1948 and the 70th birthday will see celebrations across the country.
