NORTH Devon Council wants people to have their say on a new scheme that aims to give people in social housing more choice about where they live.'Devon Home Choice' is a new scheme that will cover the whole of the county and will provide choice for people looking for housing. It is to be phased in across Devon from the autumn, but before then North Devon Council wants to find out what you think about the way it will work. Currently the council only holds a housing list that covers the North Devon area. With Devon Home Choice, every local authority in Devon will use the same housing register. They will also use the same application form and have the same approach to assessing housing need, so that the scheme is fair. Each week, council and housing association homes that are available to let in Devon will be advertised through Devon Home Choice, online and through a newsletter. Applicants will be able to bid for homes that suit their requirements and the applicant rated 'in most need' will be offered the home.North Devon Council's Portfolio Holder for Housing, Cllr Andrea Davis said: "The new scheme will give people waiting for social housing more options and even enable them to move across the county. Over the next couple of months we will be finding out what people who are going to be using the new scheme think about the way it will work, so that we can make sure that it is going to work for them."Devon local authorities have developed a draft policy that sets out how Devon Home Choice will work. For more information and to have your say on the draft policy fill in an online form at www.consultationfinder.com/devon/northdevon. The consultation is open until Monday 2nd March.
