Fire crews were called out in the early hours of the morning after reports of a ‘strong smell of gas’ in Holsworthy.

Firefighters from Holsworthy, Hatherleigh and a supporting appliance from North Tawton were sent to North Road at 1.46am today (Thursday).

The environmental protection unit was also sent to the scene after reports of a gas and cylinders possibly leaking.

On arrival at the scene crew confirmed a small amount of gas leaking from lpg cylinders within a chained compound.

At 2.08am a fire service spokesman said crews had gained access and the gas cylinder had been isolated. He added the gas was allowed to disperse naturally.
