THE first turf will be ceremoniously cut at noon tomorrow (Friday) as work begins on the eagerly awaited Skate Park at Rock Park in Barnstaple.Rock Park SK8 Committee of skaters, councillors and officers has been working closely with contractors Gravity Engineering Limited to finalise the park's groundbreaking design.It now features a brick element to provide a different skating surface, as well as a full-size American fire hydrant feature, understood to be unique to Rock Park Skate Park. Gates Partnership is also working on the scheme.Braunton Aggregates has donated a large rock from Vyse Quarry, Spreacombe, which is being incorporated into the design, with the words Rock Park Skate Park inscribed on it.The project is expected to take 12 weeks to complete and it has been funded by North Devon Council, Barnstaple Town Council, Devon Youth Service, Barnstaple Sk8 Committee and the Bridge Trust.
