WACKY racers will be running the narrow streets of Appledore on Friday night when the Appledore Pirates present their annual fund-raising pram race.

Teams of two - one in a pram or cart and the other pushing - will be in fancy dress as they race from pub to pub around the village, squeezing in time for a 'quick half' at each!

The race starts from the Seagate Hotel at 8pm and finishes at the Appledore Social Club, with calls at the Beaver, Royal George, Champ, Royal and the Coach and Horses en route. It is being sponsored by the Countrylife Brewery with the donation of Old Appledore ale for the racers' stops.

As the legs get tired and the halves have their effect the spectacle promises to become increasingly interesting.

The event will raise money for the Appledore Pirates' fund to provide their annual free Christmas dinner for the village's pensioners.

Sixteen teams of two have so far entered for the event, but there is still room for a few more.
