A cancer survivor from Barnstaple is urging people from across the region to sign up for North Devon’s Relay for Life.

Anthony Price, 33, is encouraging friends, families and work colleagues to enter teams for the new, overnight event at Barnstaple Rugby Club on August 1 to raise life-saving funds for Cancer Research UK.

And Anthony hopes that many more people who have been through cancer or are currently in treatment will join him in a special ‘lap of honour’ to open the fundraising festival.

Anthony, who was diagnosed with neck and throat cancer in 1997 at the age of 15, said: “It’s a chance to celebrate life and honour those who have survived cancer but also remember and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives to the disease.

“I was only a teenager when I was diagnosed with cancer and nothing prepares you to hear those words, especially at such a young age. Thanks to successful surgery and treatment I am here today.”

Anthony is currently having treatment to replace his teeth that were lost due to extensive radiotherapy, but is studying for an Honours degree in Psychology with the Open University.
