PEOPLE and businesses in Barnstaple are being asked to sign a "Declaration" to keep the town looking clean and attractive.It follows the success of Barnstaple Town Council's Tidy Up Our Town initiative last month.The Declaration was rolled out at a celebratory evening to thank all those who had taken part in the tidy-up initiative.It challenges everyone to work together with the councils to keep Barnstaple looking spick and span.Cllr Rod Hawes, chairman of the town council environment committee, said: "The Tidy Up Our Town event was hugely successful with upwards of 100 people taking part."It was a tremendous example of what a community and its council can achieve when they choose to work together."As a town council, we are most encouraged and now committed to making this Tidy Up an annual event."Everyone at the meeting registered their intention to sign the "pledge"Cllr Hawes said: "This council ha an ambitious programme for the next two years in which time we aim to make Barnstaple the greenest town in Devon."By signing our Environmental Declaration you, too, are also committing to being part of that vision."To sign the Declaration, contact Tracey Weaver or Kate Elston on (01271) 373311.
