CONTINUITY continues at a long established Bideford stationery and art shop, where familiar staff are for a second time becoming the new owners.Garlands in Allhalland Street has been a popular town centre business for more than 50 years.Pam Balfour has worked there for 32 years in all, taking over as owner from her previous boss, Nancy Elliott, 17 years ago. Now she is retiring and on February 1 will pass on the baton to shop manager Bridget Cook and staff member Lisa Slade as joint owners.Bridget has worked in the shop for 13 years and Lisa, who first had YTS training there in 1990, returned for a full-time position four years ago. Together with their two part-time and two Saturday staff they plan to continue the business in the same traditional style of personal and friendly service on which its reputation has been built.Until recently operating as two separate shops on each side of the road, the stationery and art departments have been drawn back together in the original shop at 8c Allhalland Street. From there customers will be able to find all their art and stationery needs, plus a variety of craft sets and school equipment for children. And if there is anything customers cannot find in stock Bridget and Lisa are sure they can quickly have it ordered."Our aim is to please and to cater for everyone's needs. Customers only have to ask," said Bridget.
