AS thousands of anxious students across North Devon receive their GCSE results this week , Connexions, the Learning and Skills Council, and the local authority are offering all Year 11 school leavers a special opportunity to help them into learning or work known as the September Guarantee.
The September Guarantee is a Government commitment that anyone leaving Year 11 in 2009 or 2008 will be offered either an education course, job with training or training course by the end of September 2009.
Connexions provides impartial information, advice and guidance to young people to help all 13-19 year olds to get into learning and work. Teams of Connexions personal advisers will be available in schools and colleges on results day - and the Connexions centre in Boutport Street, Barnstaple, will be holding a special open day with extended opening hours to 6.00 pm tomorrow (Thursday) for students and their parents and carers to seek advice.
Connexions area manager for North Devon Mark Walker said:: "Many students will have already made plans for what they want to do after they receive their GCSEs - but some may not get the results they want or may just feel confused about what to do next.
"Our personal advisers can give young people the best advice about the options available to them, and give them information about opportunities with a host of training providers, schools, colleges and employers.
"We give independent, impartial advice so young people can feel confident that their interests are a priority. In particular those students who plan to go into local employment should, if they do not have a confirmed job, seek assistance from Connexions."
