THE search is on for someone to help "set the standards" of North Devon Council.The council is looking for a member of the public to join its Standards Committee, which oversees the ethical conduct of the authority, its members and parish councillors."This is a great opportunity for someone to really make a difference and to help ensure that high standards are always met," said Standards Committee chairman Jenny Arnold. "We are looking for an individual committed to the principles of honesty, openness and equality and welcome applications from anyone in the district who fits the criteria." The position will involve around eight to 10 hours of work per month, in the form of monthly evening meetings and other ad-hoc meetings from time to time, some of which may be during the day.The successful candidate must:* Know the area well, along with its broad community issuesHave a good standing within the community.* Be prepared to determine complaints against Councillors* Follow the Council's Code of Conduct.* Be prepared to act as a Chairman or Vice Chairman of the Committee or Sub-Committee.A small allowance together with travel and subsistence allowance will be given, along with full training.Anybody interested in applying should phone (01271) 388253 or 388254 for an application form.
