POLICE are appealing to lunchtime supermarket shoppers to help bag a man alleged to have caused �500 worth of damage to a scooter.The bike was damaged at around 12.30pm at the Barnstaple branch of Tesco, on Saturday, February 21.The incident followed an earlier altercation between the rider and a man driving what is thought to be a white S-reg Ford Fiesta, about half-a-mile mile from the supermarket.The car driver is alleged to have followed the scooter to Tesco, before confronting the rider by the cash point, kicking over the scooter and driving off.A police spokesperson said: "It was a very busy lunchtime and the area was full of shoppers and we are sure someone has information which could help the investigation."We are appealing for anybody who saw the incident to come forward."Police say the driver was male, aged in his 40s, with balding brown hair, stocky build, about 6ft tall and unshaven. He was wearing a black motorcycle-type jacket with padded shoulders and motifs on front of chest with a large broad white band down each side of the jacket.He was wearing dark trousers and believed to have been in the company of a woman and a young boy.Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call PC Dave Seymour on 08452 777444 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
