School learns the rhythms of Africa

The rhythm of African drums filled the school hall as pupils tried the art for the themselves

PUPILS, teachers and even parents at Torrington Infants School have had an exciting week learning African drumming.

Denis Kikongo, originally from Uganda, ran a whole school assembly as well as smaller sessions to teach the African rhythms.

The school hall was filled with the sound of the drums and the children learnt about the different sizes, shapes and names of the drums.

Denis also taught them about the African village he came from, where he used to walk 10 miles to school every day.
