A £500,000 project to extend cramped classrooms at Woolacombe School will be officially opened next week. The three extended classrooms will be opened by the Vice Chairman of Devon County Council, Cllr Douglas Hull, at 11am on Friday.Woolacombe head teacher Sandy Brown said: "For many years the children have been squashed into very small rooms. The classrooms suffered with decaying plaster and damp, were very noisy and often too hot."The classrooms now extend over the old playground, which is still used, and will be further developed to incorporate more play opportunities for our very youngest children."The outcome is fantastic and reflects the excellence that our school strives for. Our classrooms reflect the philosophy and vision that we all have for learning and childhood. Our school has become the children's home for learning and they love and treasure and have a pride in their new environment. "Local county councillor Andrea Davis said: "I am delighted that we have been able to provide this extension, which will go a long way toward providing the up-to-date teaching environment that our young children deserve."The school has an excellent academic and sporting record which can only be improved upon now that the problem of the previously cramped conditions has been resolved.
