BEACH-goers will have the opportunity to get their moles checked at a free event at Saunton beach on Saturday, June 27.The event is being hosted by the Devon Local Involvement Network (LINk) to raise awareness about sun safety and skin cancer.Becky Keeling, Community Engagement Worker with the project says: "We want to raise awareness of the Devon LINk as well as providing a valuable service to local people. "In North Devon we spend a lot of time outdoors and at the beach and cases of skin cancer locally are increasing. We want to raise awareness and encourage people to get the moles they have been slightly concerned about, checked out."An NHS clinician from the Dermatology Unit in Barnstaple will be on hand at the event to check and advise. We will also have lots of information about sun safety from Cancer Research UK."Rob Shaddick a qualified audiologist from Surfplugs will also be giving free ear checks for surfers' ear, a nasty ear canal condition caused by exposure to cold water.People will also be able to find out how to share their views and experiences of local health and social care services through the LINk that has been set up to give people a stronger local voice. The event will run from 11am - 3pm on Saturday, June 27 and the tent will be located in front of the surf life saving club on the beach.
