THOUSANDS entered the draw - but just one special girl was chosen to pluck the winning tickets in the Children's Hospice South West 2008 annual raffle.It was left to 10-year-old Samantha Stone, from Holsworthy, to have fun rummaging through the 35,000 entries tipped into the boot of this year's star prize, a brand new Kia Picanto 'Ice'.Samantha, who has been receiving respite care at Little Bridge House, Fremington, for the last six years, pulled out a winning ticket bought by Mrs Dodd from Bideford.Second prize, flights and a two-night stay for two people at the Star Castle Hotel on the Isles of Scilly, was won by Mrs Rendell from Barnstaple.Third prize, two nights for two people at the Falmouth Beach Hotel in Cornwall, was won by Mr Engley from Bristol. Emma Puckey, head of community fundraising at the hospice, said: "The annual raffle is a very important part of our annual fundraising and this year the people of the South West have once again shown their support by buying over 35,000 tickets."Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and helping to make the most of short and precious lives."Other prizes included a photo portrait, meal for two at the Combe House Hotel and a colour consultation.Tickets for next year's Children's Hospice South West annual raffle will be on sale from January 2009.
