FIVE-YEAR-OLD Ryan Cole, from Braunton, has won the Best Pumpkin prize from Green Lanes Shopping Centre in Barnstaple.

The Southmead School student won a goody bag full of nice things from Green Lanes.

Ryan was just one of the many children who received free pumpkins from Green Lanes Shopping Centre as part of their Hallowe'en celebrations.

The children carved their pumpkins into witches, moons, stars, broomsticks and toothy monsters.

However it was Ryan's traditional scary pumpkin face which won over the judges.

Green Lane Shopping Centre manager, Jan Dayman, said: "The standard of pumpkin carvings were really impressive. Clearly Hallowe'en is a very popular festival and we were pleased to have given our little shoppers the chance to show their creativity."

Ryan was delighted with his win. He said: "I am really pleased but I can't take all the credit. Mum helped, too, so I will share my goodies with her.
