‘Royal couple’ tour Appledore

PROMENADERS on Appledore Quay have been having a double take this week as royal couple Prince William and Kate have been seen touring the village in an open-top Mini.

But thoughts they might be checking the area for a honeymoon destination are soon dispelled when it is realised they are just cut-out models.

It all began with an old time music hall production by the local Estuary Players in Appledore Church Hall, which featured a ‘royal box’ with lifesize figures of William and Kate.

After the show the figures were taken under the wing of Alison Stone, landlady of The Beaver Inn. She put them in the back of her Mini and they have since been attracting plenty of attention as she drives around the area, the model Kate proudly displaying her large engagement ring.
