THE Woolfardisworthy Sports and Community Hall has received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

The announcement of the honour - the equivalent of an MBE - was made today (Tuesday) on the anniversary of the Queen's coronation.

Brian Butler, president of the hall committee, said the honour was a tribute to all the volunteers who hade made the building of the environmentally friendly facility possible.

Members of the committee are being invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace and the Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Eric Dancer, will present an inscribed commemorative crystal and certificate at the hall later in the summer.
