Rotary’s ‘golden’ effort in earthquake aftermath

Barnstaple club sent more than 100 Shelterboxes to aid victims.

BARNSTAPLE Rotarians have been honoured for their fund-raising efforts in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake.

In the 12 months following the 2010 disaster, Barnstaple Rotary Club sent 104 Shelterboxes to provide aid for more than 1,000 people.

Each box costs �590 and contains a disaster relief tent and blankets for up to 10 people; water purification equipment; a stove and cooking utensils; and other items essential to survival.

The club was presented with the Shelterbox Trust Gold Certificate by district governor Paul Edwards.
