BIDEFORD Rotary Club members dressed in wetsuits gatecrashed an RNLI charity fund-raising dinner at the North Devon Yacht Club - and presented £1,250 to Appledore RNLI. Surprised at the gate crashing, but grateful to receive such a large contribution Appledore Lifeboat Station manager Wendy Dale said: 'We are delighted to receive this contribution from Bideford Rotary. We have had several new volunteer crew members this year. It costs £1,000 to train each new member and £1,000 to kit them out with the right protective and safety wear. To receive a donation of this size really helps. Many thanks to the Rotary Club.'"This was part of the money raised at the Rotary Bideford Water Festival last summer. The event is to be repeated on July 19 next year. Further details from Richard Williams on (01237) 423690.
