Barnstaple Rotary clubs have been collecting in the town today (Thursday) to help provide urgent shelter for the people of Nepal. Following the earthquake, some 600,000 homes have been damaged and Rotarians from both Barnstaple Rotary and Barnstaple Link Rotary have been busy doing their bit collecting in the High Street to raise money for ShelterBox. With the weather worsening, ShelterBox is sending shelter kits to Nepal, which will help people to clear rubble, mend structures and make sturdy temporary shelters that can be adapted and moved when needed. More ShelterBox response teams are on the way to identify the people most in need and to distribute aid. ShelterBox is such a unique box, because all that people need is contained within it, said Mark Fowler, one of the Barnstaple Link Rotary team collecting on the High Street today. The clubs hope to hold another collection in the town next Friday.
