FOLLOWING the success of ITS two inaugural Coast to Coast charity cycle rides, Bideford Bridge Rotary Club assisted by other Rotary clubs across North Devon, hasannounced the launch of two more events to be run on Sunday, July 19. The popular Tarka Funride comprises small five to 10-mile chunks for families, friends, clubs, organisations and businesses ,while the more challenging Two Moors Sportif is 100 miles for experienced cyclists. Both events have been sponsored by Parkwood Leisure and will start from Barnstaple Leisure Centre. The Tarka Fun Ride is expected to attract a large number of families who can choose anysection of the beautiful Tarka Cycle Trail from scenic and flat estuary cycle into thecountryside to Meeth. Last year the winning team raised more than 1,000 in sponsorship while some teams in fancy dress were not only raising cash but turning heads and raising smiles! There will be spot prizes on the day for cute kids and fancy dress. Meanwhile, tremendous interest is expected this year from serious riders competing in the Two Moors Hundred Sportif. While last year's event was from coast to coast, thisyear's will provide even more of a challenge as it is a tough course over 160 km on country lanes with nearly 3150 m (10000 ft) of climbs in the stunning and varied scenery Dartmoor and Exmoor. There is also a shorter 100 km course.Entrants in both events choose which registered charity they wish to receive 50 per cent of the money they raise. The other 50 per cent will go to local Rotary club charities. The total amount of sponsorship money raised for charity from the first event was 5,500 and this year the club is aiming to triple the total number of entries and money raised in 2008.Entrants are encouraged to book early, further information and entry forms are available online at www.twomoors100.co.ukApart from entering to ride, both these events also provide tremendous scope to promote products and services to a wide range of age groups of locals and visitors alike. Any businesses wishing to benefit from sponsoring such resources as printing of brochures and posters, T shirts and hats and prizes etcetera should contact Bernard Wragge-Morley on 01237 423388.
