TWO cars were damaged this afternoon (Weds) when several corrugated sheets blew off the roof of a Barnstaple shop.

Bensons for Beds in Braunton Road has been left with several dislodged ceiling tiles and half its roof missing due to the high winds.

Gusts of up to 50 miles per hour saw two-to-three corrugated sheets blow off the roof at the back of the building at around 2pm this afternoon.

A staff member said two cars belonging to the engineering firm next door had been damaged when the sheets were dislodged.

There is currently an amber weather warning for wind in place across North Devon, which has seen several fallen trees blocking roads and a lorry overturned on the Torridge Bridge in Bideford.
