I was hoping to show him the river and the paths that lead down over the common but it's completely overgrown.
In my youth I can remember standing at the top of the hill and seeing my friends playing on the river bank.
It was in Victorian times that a organisation called The Great Torrington Commons Conservators was formed, "What a misnomer".
