The RNLI is urging people to take heed of its safety advice when visiting North Devon beaches this bank holiday weekend.

RNLI lifeguards will be returning to North Devon's beaches this bank holiday weekend.

Both locals and holiday makers are being urged by the RNLI to stay within their depth, as the summer season gets underway.

RNLI lifeguard supervisor, Beau Gillett, said: "We remind beachgoers to use RNLI lifeguarded beaches and to swim in supervised areas between the red and yellow flags.

"It's worth remembering to check the tide times to avoid getting caught out and noting that the sea temperature is still cold at this time of year.

"If you get into trouble, stick your hand in the air and shout for help.

"If you see someone else in trouble, tell a lifeguard, or call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."

The RNLI will start patrolling across the region at different dates between now and July.
