WALKERS will be able to enjoy a newly re-opened section of the South West Coast Path at Ilfracombe over the Easter weekend.Strengthening work has been carried out on the retaining wall which supports Footpath No 92 carrying the South West Coast Path around Capstone Hill. The Devon County Council project, which started in September, has also resurfaced the path and new lamp columns have been installed. Cllr Margaret Rogers, Devon County Council Executive Member for Environment, said: "It's wonderful that this popular section of the South West Coast Path has been re-opened in time for the Easter break, when I'm sure locals and visitors will be making the most of Devon's great outdoors. "The location has meant the project has not been the most straightforward to deal with but the contractors have worked extremely hard and the path is greatly improved."Geoff Fowler, county councillor for Ilfracombe, said: "The re-opening of this important piece of the coastal path is welcomed right across the community. This difficult piece of engineering was carried out very professionally through some atrocious winter weather. "It not only restores an important piece of Ilfracombe's environment but has enhanced the area at the same time.
