The annual event saw teams of walkers making an endless circuit at Barnstaple Rugby Club in a non-stop relay from noon Saturday until noon Sunday. Event chairman Lisa Mackenzie said the rain had been torrential, but that didnt matter to those taking part. She said: All everybody kept saying was cancer does not give a damn about the weather, so why should we? The final total will be revealed in October but it is expected the event has raised more than £20,000 for Cancer Research UK. The event began with a lap of honour by cancer survivors and after dark a Candle of Hope ceremony saw the darkness lit up in memory of those lost and in celebration of those still here. Lisa added a huge thank you to everybody who had helped and supported the event this year, especially local businesses including Tesco Rose Lane and the rugby club, plus bar manager Jackie Edwards and her husband Trevor, who both stayed for almost the entire event.
