Refuse collections halted by blizzard

Torridge District Council's refuse and recycling lorries were forced to return to their depots this morning (Friday) after unexpected snow blizzards prevented them from completing their scheduled rounds. There will be no dry recycling service today and all normal refuse collection rounds have been cancelled.The lorries are now being redeployed in areas of the district where it is safe for them to work in order to catch up on the backlog. The council offices at Riverbank House, Bridge Buildings and the Town Hall in Bideford, Torrington Area Office, Caddsdown Business Support Centre and the Burton Art Gallery & Museum are all open. Holsworthy Area Office is shut as usual on a Friday.The district council reports that it is continuing to monitor the situation and further updates will be available on its website and through the local media.
