Opportunity for local 16 to 18-year-olds to join exciting 12 week course to help get a job, education or training.

ILFRACOMBE teenagers are being offered the opportunity to have a great time while gaining new skills and building confidence with the return of a Princes Trust course to the town.

The 12-week course starts on Monday, December 5 and will be open to 16-18 year olds who are unemployed or searching for a new direction.

The programme is packed with a variety of activities including a week long residential stay on Dartmoor, outward bound challenges, planning and working on a local community project plus help and advice on getting into employment or training.

It is the first Princes Trust team to be run in Ilfracombe for quite some time and will be run by TTS Group in conjunction with Transform. It has been made possible following funding from Petroc.

Newly appointed team leader Becky Wignell said they would like to hear from any young people who wish to become a part of the new team.

“The aim is to help improve your confidence, problem solving skills and teach you how to work as part of a team,” she said.

“It will help people get back into work, education or training by improving their teamwork and presentation skills as well as boosting self confidence.”

Practical help and advice on job seeking will include how to apply, creating a CV and interview techniques. The course also includes two weeks of work experience.

Each team also works on a community project, such as a community garden or helping to clean and refurbish a neighbourhood building.

Which project the team work on will be chosen by the young people themselves and organisers would like people to send them suggestions for potential projects to provide some options to choose from.
