Children swap exercise books for notepads as part of school project on the newspaper industry.

NEWSHOUNDS at Umberleigh Community Primary School have been swapping exercise books for notepads as part of a project on the newspaper industry.

Both classrooms at the tiny village primary have become temporary newsrooms to give pupils a flavour of what it’s like to produce a newspaper.

Gazette editor Andy Keeble, who was invited along to the school to talk about the day-in-a-life of a newspaper editor, said: “It’s fantastic that young people are learning about newspapers and the role that they play.

“The children were really interested to find out more about how a newspaper is produced and they asked some great questions – I’m sure they’ll make fantastic reporters when they’re older.”
