NEW property marker kits aimed at rural neighbourhoods are to be made available in the South Molton area.Police and the local crime prevention panel are planning a special promotion in the Pannier Market to show people how they can be obtained and used to deter thieves. The SelectaMark kits enabled people to permanently mark not only household items such as computers and televisions, but also bicycles, trailers, horse riding equipment and more, said South Molton PCSO Jerzy "Yorkie" Rozputynski.Funding was now being sought and it was planned to make the kits available available in the South Molton, Chulmleigh and Witheridge areas to help prevent burglaries, he said. Not only would they provide a deterrent to thieves, but could also bring insurance benefits. With support from the many organisations in the area, Safer North Devon, the police and the Crime Prevention Panel, he was confident they would be able to raise enough to support this campaign in the community, said Crime Prevention Panel chairman and local councillor David Worden. It was then planned to have a promotion in the Pannier Market when people could turn up to be shown how to use the markers and take a kit home.Promotion of the markers was part of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness and prevent burglaries, he said.
