APOLLO Property Services Group has won a £6.9 million contract to carry out external repairs for Bideford-based Tarka Housing, a member of Westward Housing Group.Apollo Housing, the Group's specialist division, will look after Tarka's portfolio of more than 1,400 houses in the Torridge District Council area over the next four years. The company will also provide internal improvement works to kitchens, bathrooms, and heating, electrical and insulation works to 400 of Tarka's properties. The programme will be administered from Apollo's recently-opened South West office in Gillingham, Dorset. The company has around 100 staff in the region.Work starts in April 2009 on the contracts, which will also see Apollo work alongside Tarka Housing to introduce alternative energy sources for some of the more remote houses in the portfolio. These properties have limited access to mains gas supply and the Tarka / Apollo team will consider whether initiatives, such as solar panels, can be introduced to ensure efficient and sustainable access to energy for residents.John Sanders of Tarka Housing's Tenants' Panel said: "We appointed Apollo for a variety of positive reasons including a demonstrated commitment to Tarka's Improvement and Maintenance programme, a fresh and innovative approach and extensive experience in this sector - all of which gives us confidence that they will deliver value for money and assist in delivering a successful project.
