Power cuts have been reported in Newport this morning (Tuesday) after a car collided with a wall next to a small electricity sub station. Around 2,117 customers in the Newport area were left without electricity following the incident in Congrams Close at 10.02am Paramedics are still at the scene treating the elderly passenger of the VW Polo, which collided with the wall adjacent to the sub station. A spokesperson for Western Power Distribution said 1,900 customers had been restored by 10.37am. There are still 217 customers off but we are working on restoring their power within the hour. We currently have multiple engineers on site evaluating the situation. Reports on scene said Park School was without electricity but they were trying to get a generator in to get it back up and running.
