BARNSTAPLE Poverty Action Group has announced a new community initiative aimed at helping people in rural areas of North Devon. The Gateway Rural Outreach project offers advice, help and support on a wide variety of topics, including welfare benefits, debt management, housing, tenancies and homelessness. BPAG also works with a range of other local organisations and can refer and signpost people to these for advice and support on other issues. The new service is available to adults of all ages and operates from South Molton, Braunton, Lynton and Ilfracombe, reducing the need for people to travel to the main towns for help and advice.Nicola Topham and Julie Evely who manage the project, say the introduction of the rural initiative is very timely as people who may never have needed to seek advice before are experiencing the effects of the current economic situation. For more information on the project or to book an appointment, call BPAG on (01271) 371499.
