North Devons Steve Crowther has taken over the leadership of UKIP for the time being at least. Mr Crowther, 60 and from Heanton Punchardon, stood as the North Devon parliamentary candidate. He was announced on Friday as the partys interim leader after leader Paul Nuttall stood down when the party failed to win any seats. That will last until the national conference in Torbay on September 29 and the election of a new leader. Mr Crowther told the Gazette he had no ambition to become the permanent leader. He said: Its keeping the show on the road, making sure that we are in good shape, well organised and that theres a viable fighting machine to hand over to the new leader, whoever he or she may be. He said the General Election result had been a nonsense and added: Many people are coming back to UKIP in fury at having been let down so badly by the Government.
