PEOPLE in North Devon are being warned to look out for criminals working a scam to obtain bank account details. The police have received complaints from throughout the region about people purporting to be from Sky television telephoning and asking for bank account details in order to continue the Sky subscription.A police spokesman said: "The calls are a scam to obtain account details fraudulently and people are urged not to pass details unless absolutely sure."Bank details must never be passed to a cold caller by telephone."They can ensure they are speaking to the right person by calling the official Sky number from the phone book."The warning comes after an incident in the Exwick area of Exeter in which two men visited an address and claimed to be Sky engineers. They arrived in a van and were wearing blue polo shirts and trousers with plastic ID cards around their necks. They managed to get into the house, but left when challenged. Sky confirmed that the men were not employed by them.Police are urging people not to allow cold callers into their homes unless they are certain they know who they are.
